There’s so much I want to tell you. I wish I hadn’t deleted all of the writings I had, and I wish that I had started a regular written journal when you were born. Alas, I did not.
You are my shining star, my reason for being, and my everything. You delight me with your headstrong ways, your fierce heart, and your bravery. This summer you spent a lot of time at camp, and all the counselors told me every day how wonderful and kind you are. It’s true. You are great at sharing, and have started being nice to kids younger than you. It is so good to see you with other children, laughing and playing.
I wish I could capture this age of innocence and independence forever. You still sometimes want to snuggle me, although usually these days you prefer your own space. You like to eat snacks but not meals, much to our confusion and frustration. We love you so much. There’s no way to describe how much me and your daddy love you.
Now you’re 6! You start 1st grade in a week and a half. I can’t believe it. It feels like only yesterday we were being sent home from the birth center with you in our arms. I hope that this school year brings you new friends and experiences and learning. You are SO close to really reading on your own, and I love seeing your confidence develop as you recognize sight words and sound out longer words. Soon you will be snuggled up with all the comic books you love so much, and there are so many books I cannot wait to introduce you to as you grow older.
My little Leo, I love you so much. I hope that you know that. I know, I tell you every day, and sometimes you get tired of hearing it, but I will never stop saying it. Soon everything will be different, and I want to capture as many of these special moments as possible.
We went camping for your birthday this weekend, and it was your first time camping. You were a little nervous about wolves and bears, but for the most part it was an epic weekend. Ruby and Little James and Madison came to keep you company, and a great time was had by all. Even Not Old Grandma and Vicente came out to see you at the cabins. I hope you treasure this memory, as I will.
All my love,
